Whatever you’re writing – a research paper, an argumentative essay, your resume, a literature review – we can help.
The ASU Writing Centers have developed a Writing Strategy Guide.
Think of it like the maps and kits you’d bring on a journey: we’ll help guide you through the process, but the journey itself is still yours to do!
While you might approach your writing process in a different order, this guide is here to support you as you think about your writing, regardless of the assignment.
The expanded interactive Writing Strategy Guide for approaching your writing is available now! Use the button below to start your writing journey!
Please make sure to access with your ASU Gmail account. For information on how to switch to your ASU Gmail, please see our how-to guide.
Interactive Writing Strategy Guide by Arizona State University Academic Support Network is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0
Our expanded interactive Writing Strategy Guide is still in beta mode, which means that it’s still a work in progress! Help improve our Strategy Guide by using the resources, engaging with the activities, and trying the embedded resources.

Generative AI tools, like those in Grammarly, can be effective in helping you as you work through the writing process. For example, you can use generative AI to brainstorm ideas that you then review and further develop to make your own. Generative AI can also help you create an outline that you revise to fit the parameters of an assignment. You can also use generative AI tools to ask for feedback on an outline you’ve already developed in order to further enhance it. What these examples have in common is your involvement, voice, creativity, and critical evaluation as the writer. To be responsible when using generative AI, always be sure to follow your professor’s expectations and abide by the university’s policies on academic integrity.
Writing, like any craft, uses a variety of tools, including generative AI. We’d love to offer you a Grammarly for Education premium account (at no cost to you!). This is a pilot license that lasts through December 2025.
